November 29, 2010 - The weather on Saturday morning was perfect for hanging holiday lights at the flag median, located at the intersection of Chippewa, Broadway and Jefferson.

The LED lights and holiday decorations purchased for last year's display and stored at Champion Scale were still useable. Unfortunately, the star had broken in a strong wind storm and was seemingly beyond repair.

Thankfully, Tim Bliss volunteered his time and labor to re-solder and straighten the star for this year's display. He even sprayed it a matt black so the lights would shine brighter. Bob Moore and I spent several hours wrapping and re-wrapping the lights on the star.

With the help of the St. Louis Fire Department firemen from Fire House #4 and their ladder truck, the star was place at the top of the 30-foot flag pole and nine strands of LED lights were hung to create the shape of a tree. With a few adjustments and a last minute rewiring, the lights were in place and twinkling once more.

On Sunday, Santa's helpers returned to place the snowman and two reindeer on the fountain. Lights were also wrapped around the shrubs at the fountain and the New England Asters at the flag median.

The holiday lights will remain up through the holiday season to help brighten the neighborhood for residents and to welcome shoppers to retail businesses in the district.
