CBBA Pursues Library Branch at Former Hollywood Video
The former Hollywood Video store, located at 3740 S Jefferson, was sold through auction last year and has remained a vacant storefront in our business district.

With the support of Alderman Craig Schmid, CBBA members and supporters are leading an effort to encourage the St. Louis Public Library to consider operating a branch at this location.

Alderman Schmid suggested that business members send letters directly to Mr. Waller McGuire, Executive Director, St. Louis Public Library, 1301 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO 63103, with a copy to him: Craig Schmid, Board of Aldermen, City Hall -- Room 230, 1200 Market Street, St. Louis, MO 63103. You can also e-mail a pdf copy to him at schmidc@stlouiscity.com

The following letter was sent on behalf of CBBA to the St. Louis Public Library:

Minnie Wood Memorial Square
Maple and plum trees were recently planted around the playground at Minnie Wood Memorial Square.
MNPA Mulching at Broadway
MPNA members and Fontbonne University staff mulched the median at Broadway and Osceola.
Spotlight on South Broadway
The St. Louis Forestry Department planted trees last week near the pavilion at Minnie Wood Memorial Square. A row of maple trees now separates the playground area from the ball fields. Plum trees enhance the fountain area and the east side of the pavilion facing Broadway.

Our sincere thanks to Alderman Ken Ortmann for providing grant money to buy the trees and to the forestry crew for helping beautify our business district.

A workday at Minnie Wood is scheduled, Saturday, May 23, from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m., to weed the knockout rose beds around the pavilion, trim the boxwood hedge, sweep the playground and weed around the park sign on Broadway.

Special thanks also to our friends and neighbors from the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Association. Joe Davis, president of MPNA, Philipa Krueger, and many staff from Fontbonne University teamed up, May 2, in the rain, to weed and mulch the median at South Broadway & Osceola Streets in front of Skip's Place Too.

MPNA purchased the mulch and also put in a beautiful brick edging. Their generous efforts have helped create a much nicer welcome to our business district.
